RFID technology: how does it work?

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is one of the best traceability systems of the moment. It uses radio frequencies to identify, track, and manage goods.

It is generally composed of 3 elements:

• The chip or the label is integrated into the RFID security seal. On the one hand, it contains a unique code to identify the goods. On the other hand, there is additional information about the goods. Note that an RFID chip can contain up to 4 million characters.
• The RFID reader is the device used to read the data in the chip. To do this, it first sends a radio signal. The chip will then capture the latter and transfer the information in question. These can be read in this way. Depending on the case, the reader can be fixed or portable.
• The data management system receives the information after it has been read. They will then be processed and analyzed. This then makes it possible to automate tasks such as inventory tracking.
