It all started with our manufacturer Tydenbrooks Security Products Group whose three companies, E.J. Brooks, Tyden Brammal and Stoffel seals, all have a long and rich history that has evolved over time.
Since the 1800s, the founders and their successors have always played an active role in the development and innovation of their products.
In 1873, Edward J. Brooks founded E.J. Brooks Company after acquiring a toy manufacturer in New York whose production of lead soldiers was very popular at the time. Already passionate about trains, Mr. Brooks decided to start producing railroad cars. He created the first catalogue for the railroad industry that included more than 300 products.
In 1886, an excellent business opportunity arose. Mr. Brooks who was also a neighbour of the famous Thomas Edison would have been asked to participate in the design of a seal to be used for safeguarding the first electric meters.
At that time, Mr. Brooks was already supplying a variety of products such as metal seals (horseshoe seals, rope seals, sealers, bottle seals, railroad car seals, beer barrel seals). Also during that time, E.J. Brooks Company signed its first contract with the United States Department of Treasury for wire and lead seals to be used by forwarding agents responsible for the transportation of money and precious metals.
A letter dated in 1891 signed by Mr. Brooks was found on eBay in reference to the commercial trading of the company.
Proud of its 138 years of history, Brooks has merged with other companies in the same industry to become TydenBrooks Security Products Group and has earned a worldwide reputation for its safety seals.
